Another tough book, Leviticus was full of laws, instructions, and the Lord telling his people how to act. But still, in retrospect, this book was essential to the nation of Israel. There’s no way that they could have survived without knowing how to worship God and atone for their sins. Most of the book was Moses instructing the Levitical priests and the people of Israel concerning sacrifices, worship, the priesthood, ceremonial cleanliness, feasts and holy days, etc. However, the book shows how God atoned for sins through the shedding of animal blood.
I think this is a clear illustration of how grave our own sin is. Looking at how costly sins were (even sins that we unknowingly commit), I am brought to a deeper love for Christ and his sacrifice for my sins. Jesus allowed us to live beyond our petty sins, he saved us from the irreversable wrath of God. O that we would see how much our sins cost our triune God!
Pray for us as we continue to read through the bible. To Numbers we go!
