Summer Reading Collection

“List” sounds too obligatory. It gives off the impression that I read just for the satisfaction of putting a tic mark in small empty boxes. Besides, one of my epiphanies was to read for the sheer enjoyment of reading, hence my title.

Anyways, here’s my annual, overly ambitious collection of books I hope to crack open this summer. You’ll find these books to be  mostly corresponding a similar theme this summer. I’m “kickin’ it old school” and hoping to read works by the church fathers as I begin to sort through theological history (I’ve discovered that aimless, scatter-shot reading isn’t in my best interest and actually creates more confusion than clarity). So, without further adieu, here are my summer reading goals:

1. The Apostolic Fathers, Volume I: I Clement, II Clement, Ignatius, Polycarp, Didache (Loeb Classical Library) by Bart D. Ehrman

2. Confessions (Loeb Classical Library) by Saint Augustine

3. The Christian Tradition: A History of the Development of Doctrine, Vol. 1: The Emergence of the Catholic Tradition (100-600) by Jaroslav Pelikan

4. Reforming Fundamentalism: Fuller Seminary and the New Evangelicalism by George Marsden

5. Blink by Malcom Gladwell

6. Letters from the Earth by Mark Twain

So I hope this gets your brain juices flowing and you compile your own collection of books to take on this summer. I’ll do my best to release book reviews after each book I finish. Happy Reading!
